After a successful first season in charge of FC Porto that earned him a Primeira Divisão title, Artur Jorge
continued where he left off in the 1985-86 season and staged a successful title defense.
The ever-reliable striker Fernando Gomes contributed 20 in the League, although it was one of those rare
seasons when he was not the division's top scorer. Emerging Algerian striker Rabah Madjer played a big role
and contributed a dozen more goals to the cause of Porto.
Hopes of success in the European Cup were narrowly ended to Barcelona's away goals, but great things in this area were
just around the corner.
