Most of the star players of the 1995 champion Nantes team were well established in the first team before the start of this historic season, but their magical rapide evolution into such a formidable team under coach Jean-Claude Suaudeau took everyone by surprise.
Nantes led the standings from start to finish thanks to a record-breaking 32-game unbeaten streak, a sequence that was finally ended at the end of the season by Racing Club Strasbourg and the only league defeat suffered by Nantes during the entire campaign. Patrice Loko and Nicolas Ouedec formed a brilliant attacking pair scoring 40 goals between them and finishing as the division's top and third highest scorers.
Nantes cult legend Japhet N'Doram helped with a dozenautres. And this first Nantes season in 12 years will be the one that will introduce to the world of soccer at large great talents like Claude Makelele, Christian Karambeu, Reynald Pedros and Jean-Michel Ferri.
