Our selection of Greek Clubs includes the home shirt of PAOK Thessaloniki and the retro training jacket of Panathinaikos from 1971, and traces the history of the great clubs of the Greek league, from Piraeus to Thessaloniki, passing through Athens and Tripoli, highlighting their emblems and passionate rivalries.

The fervour of Athens and Thessaloniki.

The big clubs of the Greek league

The Greek league is organised around a few historic clubs: Olympiacos, in Piraeus, Panathinaikos and AEK, in Athens, and PAOK, in Thessaloniki, the country's second city. Their supporters are known to be among the most passionate in Europe, with stands filled with smoke and derbies of rare intensity. Further south, in the Peloponnese, Asteras Tripolis, founded in 1931 and whose name means the star, represents the city of Tripoli in Arcadia, far from the major metropolises.

The other leagues

The other clubs are also varied:

PAOK, the two-headed eagle of Thessaloniki

Founded on 20 April 1926 by Greek refugees from Constantinople, PAOK is the big club in Thessaloniki. Its emblem, the two-headed eagle, recalls the Byzantine heritage of its founders, and its colours, black and white, evoke the mourning of the lost homeland and the hope for a new life. The club plays at Toumba Stadium, a compact venue where the closeness of the stands makes every match a test for visitors. The home shirt, predominantly black and white, is the most worn by its supporters.

The Panathinaikos of 1971 and its retro jacket

On 2 June 1971, Panathinaikos, managed by Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskás, played the final of the European Cup at Wembley, losing two-nil. No Greek club had reached this stage of the competition before. Founded in 1908 in Athens, the club plays in green and white, under the emblem of the clover. The retro tracksuit jacket inspired by this era features these colours and the cut of the seventies, for those nostalgic for this epic.

Frequently asked questions

What does the name PAOK mean?

PAOK is the Greek abbreviation for Panthessalonikian Athletic Club of Constantinopolitans. This name recalls the refugees from Constantinople who founded the club in Thessaloniki in 1926.

Which Greek club won the first European trophy?

Olympiacos gave Greek football its first European trophy by winning the Conference League in 2024, in Athens. Before that, Panathinaikos had reached the final of the European Cup in 1971.

Why are Greek derbies so famous?

The rivalries between Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, AEK and PAOK pit different cities, neighbourhoods and histories against each other. The stadiums are filled hours before kick-off, with some of the loudest stands in Europe.

How to choose the size of PAOK's home shirt?

Take your usual size for a comfortable supporter fit. If you're unsure between two sizes or want to wear it over a t-shirt, the larger size will give you more ease.

How to care for a retro tracksuit jacket?

Wash it inside out, at thirty degrees, without fabric softener, then let it air dry. Avoid the tumble dryer and iron on the badge and stripes, as they could peel off or deform.
