Atalanta was born on the evening of 17 October 1907, around a tavern table in the upper town of Bergamo, where high school students founded a club named after Atalanta, the heroine from Greek mythology. It initially played in black and white, then adopted blue and black during the merger of 1920 with Bergamasca, which wore white and blue: they removed the common colour from both teams. The first major trophy came in 1963, an Italian Cup won thanks to a hat-trick by Angelo Domenghini in the final.

Dublin 2024, the first European title

On 22 May 2024, in Dublin, Atalanta won the Europa League by defeating their opponents three-nil in the final, thanks to a hat-trick from Ademola Lookman. This is the first European trophy in the club's history.
