The yellow and green of Beaujoire.

Founded in 1943, the club of the Nantes style

Founded on 21 April 1943, FC Nantes won its first French championship title in 1965, under the guidance of José Arribas, and then established itself as one of the great French clubs, crowned again in 1966, 1973, 1977, 1980, 1983, 1995, and 2001. Its trademark is the Nantes style, a collective football approach based on short passes, movement, and off-the-ball play, passed down from Arribas to Jean-Claude Suaudeau and then to Raynald Denoueix, two coaches from within the club who led the titles of 1995 and 2001.

The Canaries, from the Marcel-Saupin stadium to the Beaujoire

The people of Nantes are nicknamed the Canaries because of their yellow kit, paired with green, the club's historic colours. After playing for a long time at the Marcel-Saupin stadium, by the Loire River, they moved in 1984 to the Beaujoire stadium, inaugurated for the European Championship and which hosted matches from the 1998 World Cup. The club has experienced its last titles there and lifted the Coupe de France in 2022, twenty-two years after its previous win in the competition.

Canaries shirts, tracksuits, and jackets

The home yellow shirts and away kit, the jacket and tracksuit trousers, along with the jacket in the club's colours, allow fans to support the Canaries both at the stadium and in daily life. The jacket, designed for winter evenings in the stands, is chosen with a little room to wear a sweatshirt underneath. The home set for babies, consisting of matching shirt and shorts, dresses the youngest supporters in the family. The shirts should be washed inside out, at thirty degrees and without fabric softener, to preserve the badge and the inscriptions.

Frequently asked questions

What is FC Nantes' record?

FC Nantes has been champion of France in 1965, 1966, 1973, 1977, 1980, 1983, 1995 and 2001. They also won the Coupe de France in 1979, 1999, 2000 and 2022.

Which champions have come from the Nantes training centre?

The Jonelière centre has produced many internationals, such as Marcel Desailly, Didier Deschamps, and Christian Karembeu, all three of whom were world champions in 1998. It remains one of the pillars of the club's identity.

Why is FC Nantes' kit yellow and green?

Yellow and green are the historic colours of the club, worn since its beginnings. Yellow predominates on the home kit, which earned the players the nickname Canaries, proudly taken up by the fans.

What size should I choose for the baby kit from FC Nantes?

Base your choice on the child's weight and size rather than their age, and opt for a slightly larger size so they can wear it for several months. The soft fabric and elasticated shorts make dressing easier.

What size jacket from FC Nantes should I choose?

Take your usual size if you're wearing it over a t-shirt, or one size up if you plan to wear a sweatshirt underneath on very cold evenings. Check the sleeve length, which should cover the wrists with arms extended.
