The history of Judo

Judo was created at Japon in the 19th century by Jigoro Kano. It is based on techniques from jujitsu, a traditional Japanese martial art. Kano wanted to remove the dangerous elements of this art and make it a safe and effective competitive sport. He also wanted to make it a way to develop the personality and the morality of the practitioners. Judo became an Olympic sport in 1964.
