- Designed and anatomically profiled specifically for young riders, the all-new SM3 Youth helmet is optimised for use in MX, Enduro, and off-road, and features a range of technologies and innovations drawn from the adult helmet range of Alpinestars to provide the best mix of performance, protection, and comfort.
- This lightweight helmet features a thermo-injected shell incorporating a special polymer blend enhanced by varying thicknesses designed to provide the optimal combination of impact protection and lightness.
- The lightweight outer shell is built from advanced shock-resistant thermoplastic in three sizes (Youth Small, Youth Medium, and Youth Large). The SM3 Youth weighs 1060g.
- The fit can be customised to the rider's head thanks to the helmet’s crown and cheek pads, which are available as spare parts in different thicknesses.
- The Youth Medium (YM) and Youth Large (YL) sizes share the same EPS size, allowing riders with a YM size to initially buy a YM helmet and then set it up to a Youth Large size as they grow, using the crown and cheek pad spare parts.
- The Youth Small (YS) size has a smaller EPS size and can be customised only through cheek pads. Extensive research by Alpinestars has shown that children wearing a YS size are very small, typically aged 3 to 4 years, and therefore require a dedicated helmet fit.
- Construction
- The multi-density inner lining ensures that the helmet is equipped with the correct density in the right area for improved impact absorption, while also helping to reduce overall weight.
- The inner and outer surfaces are designed to minimise the effects of oblique impacts.
- Alpinestars' patented low-friction liner is applied to the inside of the main EPS lining to reduce rotational acceleration forces that may result from certain oblique impacts. This layer essentially acts as a slip plane to mimic the brain's low-friction cerebrospinal fluid, which is the body’s natural defense against oblique impacts.
- Maximised ventilation and high heat exchange levels thanks to 10 intake vents and seven exhaust ports.
- The visor has been designed to direct air towards the vents for better airflow.
- The patented visor release system ensures that the visor releases with the right amount of predetermined force, effectively reducing the forces on the rider's neck in the event of an impact.
- The comfort padding is made from recycled materials for a reduced carbon footprint.
- Hydration tube channels are integrated into the helmet's cheek pads for added convenience and performance.
- The soft textile chin strap measures 25mm for optimal safety and rider comfort.
- Protection
- Alpinestars has introduced a new internal standard for the SM3 Youth to test the helmet's chin bar under more severe conditions than the homologation standard, and to meet the new Alpinestars standards, both the thickness of the shell and the design structure of the helmet have been optimised in the chin area for superior impact performance.
- Equipped with an emergency release system and removable cheek pads to allow for the safe and easy removal of the cheek pads while keeping the helmet in place, while the contoured 3D foam ensures the rider's comfort.
- Stainless steel D-rings ensure a tight and secure fit.
