As the 1970s turned into the 1980s, the new decade marked the beginning of an exciting new era
forAS Roma. Returning to the helm for a second term, visionary Swedish coach Nils
Liedholm began to shape a balanced team made up of the talents of winger Bruno Conti, playmaker
Agostino Di Bartolomei and prolific striker Roberto Pruzzo.
Roma finished a respectable sixth at Serie A and the season ended in style with captain
Sergio Santarini lifting the Coppa Italia after a penalty shootout victory over Torino. Carlo Ancelotti scored the decisive kick
and Roberto Pruzzo was the top scorer of the tournament.
