Historically, Brooks saddles were made with small rivets. Riders on the continental tour had their Brooks saddles rebuilt with larger copper rivets which were softer for the leather and increased the longevity. This practice was later adopted by Brooks many decades ago. A single badly placed hammer hit can irre_me_diably damage the leather, so the utmost care must be taken in its manufacture. Each copper rivet of the SPECIAL saddles is carefully hand hammered by skilled craftsmen.
