Third place behind Juventus and Fiorentina was disappointing for Roma compared to their solid league title the previous season, but it was the season in which players led to the success of the scudettoc the following year. Roberto Pruzzo remained untouchable, Bruno Conti was Italy's best winger, Franco Tancredi became one of the best goalkeepers in the division and Brazilian Falcao was arguably the best midfielder in the world. Sebastiano Nela arrived from Genoa this season to join a team of stars, and he would become an integral part of the championship-winning team that Nils Liedholm had so carefully put together.
