This season will end with a modest 8th position in the championship and a third round exit in the FA Cup against Crystal Palace. The League Cup brought some respite before a fifth round defeat at Highbury against Arsenal. At least goals were not scarce for Forest throughout the season thanks to young prodigy Nigel Clough, veteran Gary Birtles and midfielder Neil Webb who each contributed a respectable 14 goals in the league. With Clough, younger talents were emerging in the back line of the team with players like Des Walker establishing himself as an outstanding defensive centre-back.
